Description:

The goal of the project is to strengthen a heavily eroded embankment trench in close proximity to the Plovdiv – Burgas railway line, in the section between the village of Bulgarovo and the town of Aytos. The rock slopes range from 20 to 50 meters in height and are severely eroded, with individual block sizes ranging from 1 to 2 m³. Over the years, numerous landslides have been recorded, causing incidents and damage to infrastructure. The project is part of the overall modernization of the Plovdiv – Burgas railway line, funded under the EU Operational Programme “Transport.” Its implementation aims to improve and develop the national railway infrastructure and integrate it with the European Union’s transport network.

Details

High-strength elastic barriers for rock block containment were installed, provided by the Italian company Geoprotection;
A barrier with a height of 3 meters and a length of 70 meters, model AC 500 AC, designed to absorb a dynamic load of 500 kJ, was installed above Road 1;
A barrier with a height of 4 meters and a length of 150 meters, model AC 1000 AC, designed to absorb a dynamic impact of 1000 kJ, was installed above Road 2;
The support structure of the barriers is anchored with rope anchors of type 1x37 Ø 16, with a length of 5 meters, injected with cement into Ø 90 holes;
The anchoring boreholes were made using lightweight rigs operated by technicians certified for work using rope access methods;
The barrier anchoring structure consists of mesh panels of interconnected rings with 6 contact points, with a ring diameter of 350 mm and a thickness of 12 mm;
The rock slopes above the elastic barriers are secured with double-twisted hexagonal mesh, anchored at the top of the trench;
The "pocket" walls below the barriers, which over the years have absorbed landslides of earth and rock masses, have been cleaned.
