Description:

The site represents the reinforcement of one of the most severe and large-scale landslides in Bulgaria, which has repeatedly caused the road to the Rila Massif to be buried and closed over the years.
The project was implemented in two stages. In 2020, a massive retaining wall was built and the earth-rock slope above the road was secured. In 2021, a reinforced concrete tunnel-type structure was built, ensuring safe passage to the holy monastery, which is also a cultural monument included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Details

The retaining wall is built on a slope with a height of 4.10 m and a length of 150 m. It "stands" on a foundation with a width of 2.50 m and a thickness of 1.00 m;
The foundation is secured with micropiles ф 75 with a length of 10.00 m, and IBO R 32 anchors with a length of 12.00 m pass through the retaining wall, anchoring the facility in the solid part of the slope;
The earth-rock massif above the wall is secured with a high-strength mesh, anchored to the slope with IBO R 32 anchors with a length of 6.00 m. An elastic barrier is installed on the left side of the facility to capture large rock blocks;
The tunnel has a total length of 100 m and a clear height of 5.00 m, ensuring the passage of vehicles with the largest gauge;
The columns of the facility "step" on piles with a diameter of 1000 mm and depths of 10.00 and 12.00 m, united by a pile-over beam. The tunnel slab is 0.6 m thick;
A drainage and water supply system has been implemented, elastic safety fences have been installed, new asphalt pavement, markings, signs and signaling have been installed.
