The project was executed under an engineering contract (design and construction) and aims to improve the working conditions for the operating personnel of the dam wall. A metal catwalk was constructed to provide access to the main outlet of the facility for its maintenance. Metal ladders were installed to facilitate easy access from the shafts on the crest of the dam to the galleries of the wall, which is one of the tallest in Bulgaria. A significant portion of the construction work was carried out using alpine methods by technicians certified for rope access work.
