A positive environmental impact assessment (EIA) is expected in 2025 for the implementation of the Black Sea Motorway, the Chairman of the Road Infrastructure Agency Yordan Valchev told Money.bg.
The highway, which is key for infrastructure and tourism, is part of Bulgaria’s Integrated Transport Strategy until 2030. According to the strategy adopted in 2017, its completion will cost a minimum of BGN 450 million, with construction activities expected to begin in late 2026 or early 2027. By then, all necessary procedures should be completed for the actual construction to begin.
To this end, the RIA plans to announce tenders for the design of a four-lane road expansion between Burgas and Malko Tarnovo and the doubling of the route from Varna to Dobrich.
The design of the sea highway is a process that began back in 1971 as part of the highway ring of Bulgaria, but due to financial reasons it has not yet been implemented. Its importance is enormous for the region, as it will play an important role in the development of Black Sea and specialized tourism, attracting more tourists from neighboring countries.
